Abstract |
The purpose of this study was to verify whether the issuance of sustainability reports by KOSPI-listed shipping companies is related to ESG evaluation. As ESG is gradually becoming a key management strategy, many companies are paying attention to ESG activities. Each company is carrying out ESG activities in its own way. This study analyzed the impact of issuing sustainability reports on ESG in the shipping industry, which is known to have low transparency and favorability. The analysis was conducted using ESG evaluation ratings announced by the Korea Institute of Corporate Governance and Sustainability for shipping companies listed on KOSPI from 2010 to 2023. Analysis results showed that the issuance of a shipping company's sustainability report had a positive effect on the E grade in the environmental field and the S grade in the social field among ESG areas. Analysis results also showed that ESG integration rating and governance G rating had an insignificant positive effect. This paper provides research results that can be used to develop management strategies for sustainable management of domestic listed shipping companies exposed to fierce competition with global shipping companies. |
